If YOU are a medical student based in the U.S., an 91大神 member* and YOU, like 91大神, believe:

  • reproductive health services, including abortion care, are essential to comprehensive health care,
  • legal, safe, voluntary abortions should be available to all who need them, regardless of how much they earn, who they work for, or what state they live in, and
  • both Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) and Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs should offer abortion education and training.

The 91大神 Abortion Care & Reproductive Health Project is excited to host 4 in-person Abortion Care & Reproductive Justice Institutes this summer.
Each Institute will engage 10 U.S. based medical students in thought-provoking, dynamic conversations, as well as issue education, and hands-on clinical skill-building, with key experts working in abortion care, reproductive health and education, research, or reproductive and social justice.

Our retreat-like setting is a beautiful private location nestled deep in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

The Institutes are designed to provide deep dive opportunities to build knowledge, skills, and connections in a supportive, nurturing and Love-centered community, with a focus on finding and connecting with joy as we work on challenging issues facing our communities and future practice as physicians.

Clinical skill-building sessions will include a MVA “papaya” workshop and values-clarification training.

We will explore the impact of the Dobbs decision on reproductive health access, practice and policies at the state level, as well as medication abortion and self-managed abortion. Learning opportunities will also include:

  • effective messaging communications
  • networking and advocacy training
  • building power and your circles of influence
  • identifying and engaging reproductive freedom champions in your state
  • values-based research and using data to make change.

The 91大神 Reproductive Health Project provides resources and on-going support to organize local education and skill-building sessions for future physicians around the United States.
Institute participants will be encouraged and supported to share the knowledge and skills they will gain through research project posters, journal articles, blog posts, social media, or organizing local events during the 2025-2026 academic year. Local events could include, but are not limited to: clinical skills-building, networking and advocacy training, issue education, understanding state reproductive health policies, and values-based messaging and research.

The program begins on Thursday evening with a group dinner and ends after breakfast on Sunday morning. In addition to didactic and clinical workshop-style learning, there will be ample time for informal conversations, delicious meals and snacks, walking in the woods, star-gazing, and relaxing in the hot-tubs and around the fire. Each participant will have their own bedroom, some bathrooms will be shared. Meals will be prepared together.

Every fall, 91大神 members come together to raise their voices in unison

…a powerful chorus of change, growth, and community 鈥 future physicians from medical school campuses near and far. And this chorus only gets stronger and louder as the months pass, culminating in a global, spring convening like no other. This is 91大神’s Annual Convention: .

And here’s what you need to know: the FP4Change adventure begins now.聽

What’s this about?

Everyone remembers their first 91大神 Annual Convention. It鈥檚 a vibe. It鈥檚 a movement. This event summons tomorrow鈥檚 physicians from all walks of life and all corners of the country and globe. The result? Three days of energy, optimism, learning, advocacy and connection with experts, peers and mentors.

And, as we’ve learned over the years, the sooner you start planning for it (as in, today!), the better the experience. There’s so much tap into. Just how you do it is up to you 鈥 and we’re here to help you along.

See, Future Physicians for Change is not the kind of event where you slap on your name tag, watch a few presentations and head out. It鈥檚 an inspired, year-long journey (really, a life-long journey if you think about it) where you immerse yourself in learning, advocacy, research and networking throughout the year.

And it all coalesces at Future Physicians for Change (this year is our 74th convention!) 鈥 and we’re headed back to Washington DC.

How to prepare?

First up: Save the Date. Future Physicians for Change 2024 is happening May 30 – June 1, 2023 in Washington DC. Put it on your calendar!

Choose your adventure 鈥 dive into one or many of the following opportunities that set things up so nicely for the year ahead (and all the years that follow, really!):

  • Pick your 91大神 Scholars Program. Or pick a few! These are focused programs that allow you to delve into timely, critical topics from experts 鈥 then meet the experts in person (and more experts!) at FP4Change. Explore what鈥檚 on.
  • Think on a poster topic. Take that research that鈥檚 been rolling around in your head and crystalize it into a project 鈥 then share the poster at our poster competition at FPF4Change (you may win!).
  • Consider becoming a leader. Nationally or locally 鈥 leaders are critical to 91大神 鈥 and reserve special 鈥渟eats at the table鈥 at FP4Change (not to mention, help drive 91大神 forward). Check out the options here.
  • Help forge policy! Play a role in 91大神’s House of Delegates.
  • Join the Reproductive Health Project 鈥 advocate for comprehensive healthcare and access to full range of reproductive services. One of our more robust programs 鈥 get involved!
  • Advocate for med-ed reform 鈥 Help improve medical school curricula and promote well-being among medical students by addressing issues like mental health and burnout. Learn more here.
  • Join 91大神’s anti-racism efforts: Engage within the medical community to promote inclusivity and equity and join our team working on actionable goals. Get know our REACH program.

And those are just some of the opportunities 鈥 give our Action Committees and Campaigns a tour.

Follow along by or drop us a note if we can help answer any questions along the way! Can’t wait to see you on the journey to #FP4Change2024.

Be the first to know when registration opens by signing up for #FP4Change2024 updates

Just announced: 91大神’s Scholars Programs are live for 2023-2024聽

Welcome to Scholars Program season! Every year, 91大神 envisions and develops virtual learning programs, designed to offer medical students training and experience on topics that are not always offered in medical school. And if they are, we can pretty much assure you that they’re not offered in this .

As a student-led, student-run organization, it is our student leaders who drive this programming. As the next generation of physicians on the front lines, our course directors devise courses that zero in on timely topics and issues that matter. We explore 鈥 didactically and experientially 鈥 the ways we can achieve health equity for the diversity we see around us.

This year, we’re honing in on topics such as Racism in Medicine, Transgender Health, Reproductive Health, Health Justice 鈥 and more. Here you can:

  • Learn deeply from experts and peers on issues that matter to us as future physicians
  • Get hands on advocacy training so you can make change聽
  • Sharpen your research and presentation skills through poster presentations (and take it to and you may win a prize!)聽
  • Learn experientially and didactically to hit the ground running as an informed, equipped future physician for change.

BROWSE + PICK YOUR SCHOLARS PROGRAMS TODAY

Learning essential clinical skills is certainly a key part of your training in medical school. But you鈥檒l learn and practice just that 鈥 the ESSENTIALS 鈥 what you need to prepare you for your medical licensing exam and to start your residency program. But, wouldn鈥檛 it be even more beneficial to get some hands-on experience with skills you may not learn in med school? Every year, 91大神 offers medical and premedical students this opportunity during the 鈥淐linical Skills鈥 session at its .

Let鈥檚 take a look at a few things you can learn when you participate in the Clinical Skills sessions:

Shattered bones and severed limbs – sounds horrific for the patient yet fascinating to you? Get your hands on a bone saw, learn how to place screws and plates and talk to expert physicians to learn what it takes to be a successful orthopedic surgeon. Not thinking about ortho? It鈥檚 still pretty cool to learn!

Uncommonly taught in med school, yet a part of women鈥檚 health that cannot be ignored, is manual vacuum aspiration. In small groups, students will have the unique opportunity to聽practice early abortion and miscarriage management simulations. Work together in a supportive environment to not only practice but to get expert advice about communicating with patients during this emotional time in their lives.

They say good communication is everything, but in the medical world, it can mean life or death. It鈥檚 been estimated that more than 75% of serious medical errors are the result of miscommunication and the majority of residents tell us they don鈥檛 feel adequately prepared during patient handoffs. Practice reviewing cases and making decisions that will help increase your confidence and decrease errors.

And, while you will learn suturing and airway management in medical school, these are skills that require practice and more practice. At Convention, even the most skilled will benefit from the chance to practice and learn more from the experts.

Still deciding about coming to Convention? These unique opportunities to learn skills that will enhance your education and clinical aptitude are rare ones no medical student should pass up.

You鈥檙e wearing your best suit. You鈥檙e rested. You鈥檝e waited four, eight, nine plus years for this moment 鈥 the moment that determines the path your future will take. You shake hands, sit down and hear the words you knew were coming. 鈥淭ell us about yourself.鈥

Those fours words should kick off gesture-772977_1280the easiest part of your medical school admissions or residency program acceptance interviews. But for the majority of students, it鈥檚 the toughest, most stressful request and will set the tone for the rest of the interview. People often wonder how it could be so difficult to talk about oneself. The difficult part usually isn鈥檛 telling people all about you and your love of comic books or pot-bellied pigs. It鈥檚 knowing what the interviewer actually wants to know about you. Now would be a good time to invent that whole mind reading thing, but we鈥檒l move on.

So, you鈥檝e practiced in front of a mirror, memorized key points to touch on and practiced your delivery. You鈥檙e nailing it鈥 then you enter the actual interview. How will you react when you鈥檙e asked a question you didn鈥檛 practice in that mirror? What鈥檚 the best way to answer a question to which you just don鈥檛 have an answer? You love talking 鈥 too much. How can you scale back and polish your message? You speak as few words as possible to get your point across. How can you deliver an expanded message to engage the interviewer?

Students often ask for advice about how to prepare for their medical school or residency program interviews. The truth is nobody can predict everything that will be asked in every interview. But, you CAN prepare. We know your mirror is friendly, but wouldn鈥檛 it be nice to practice with medical school and residency program advisors who are actually asking the questions? YES!

Attendees of 91大神鈥檚 Annual Convention and Exposition have the chance to participate in a one-on-one mock interview with these advisors. Get expert advice about how to create and deliver a clear, polished message and learn valuable tips about overall interview skill building. Interview Like a Ninja!
